SUMMER OF WORDZ is a 12 class series of writing and performance workshops leading up to a culminating theatrical event, anthology, & film. It is led by award winning poet “Advocate of Wordz” and will feature two guest lecturers to be announced shortly. Our goal is to increase the value of our participants writing, performance, and commodity as an artist in a production. We will work with various levels of talent but will not tolerate anything less than a 100% commitment. Moving from emerging writer/performer to professional requires the actions of a professional, and that begins with commitment.
The first 4 classes will concentrate on writing (prompts, healthy routines/practices, etc), editing, inspiration, and more.
The following 4 classes will focus on performance. Including memorization techniques, blocking & improv, stage presence, vocalization exercises, the control and release of emotions, & muscle memory.
The final 4 classes will be rehearsals. Preparing for the show and a revisiting of previous class lessons, participants will experience a professional atmosphere which includes the support of a full cast and production crew, as well as the pressure of expectations and the courage to succeed. Intertwined into these classes will also be on camera work as well as discussions about the business.
Prior to the show there will be an additional rehearsal at the venue. This final rehearsal is optional. Below is the schedule of the workshops:
